The Champions League has been pretty tough for Maccabi Tel Aviv so far and it could well get worse for them on Wednesday night when Portuguese outfit Porto head to Israel.
Porto have got a mean defence – they’ve conceded just once in their last five games – and Tel Aviv are yet to score in three attempts this season in Europe’s elite tournament.
I’m going for Porto to win to nil in this one and that pays out at best odds of 7/5, which isn’t bad considering they’ve scored two goals in each of their three games in Europe to date and the Israeli side have shipped in eight without finding a goal of their own.
My next two picks come from the Championship on Tuesday and I’m going for away wins for Wolves and Cardiff City.
Wolves bounced back from three defeats to down Birmingham away from home last time out but it is worth noting those losses came to high-flyers Derby and Middlesbrough and a resurgent Brentford outfit. The Robins, meanwhile, were hammered 4-1 at Ashton Gate by Fulham at the weekend and at a top price 2/1 the visitors look good value to me.
Cardiff travel to Leeds and at 21/10 they’re worth the risk. Leeds have lost four in a row at home and looked woeful against a fairly poor Blackburn side last time out. The Bluebirds also have a good record against the Yorkshire side with four wins in the last four meetings. I don’t know how much I buy into the idea of a ‘bogey team’ but in this case I’m willing to put my reservations to one side.
The weekend didn’t go well but again it was only a marginal loss, let’s hope these three selections turn things around. I’ve stressed I’m not a proven tipster but I do make a bit of money myself… Unfortunately the ones I’m sticking on here aren’t coming off but it is a long old season and I’m sure it will turn.
Profit/Loss on a one-point-per-bet system: -1.54
